Editorial Guidelines

VersusMatrix is committed to objective, data-driven product evaluation. These guidelines explain exactly how we score, rank, and compare products — with no hidden sponsorships or pay-to-rank arrangements.

🤖 Our AI Scoring Engine

Every product on VersusMatrix receives an overall score (0–10) calculated by our AI-powered scoring engine. Scores are computed entirely from objective data — specifications, benchmarks, and verified product attributes — not from editorial opinions or commercial relationships.

The overall score is a weighted average of category-specific dimensions. For smartphones, for example, these dimensions are Performance, Camera, Battery, Display, Design, and Price. Weights are calibrated per category to reflect what matters most to consumers in that segment.

📊 How Dimensions Are Scored

Performance

Derived from chipset benchmark scores, CPU/GPU tier, and RAM capacity. Normalized against the full product database within each category.

Camera

Based on main sensor megapixels, aperture size, OIS support, video capabilities, and front camera resolution. Camera score does not rely solely on MP — sensor quality indicators are factored in.

Battery

Calculated from battery capacity (mAh or Wh), rated battery life (hours), and charging speed (watts). Larger batteries and faster charging receive higher scores.

Display

Scored using screen size, resolution, panel type (OLED scores higher than IPS which scores higher than TN), refresh rate, brightness (nits), and HDR support.

Price / Value

Measures value relative to the category. Lower-priced products within a category receive higher price scores. This dimension rewards affordability, not just absolute price.

Design

Incorporates weight, dimensions, water resistance (IP rating), materials, and available color options. Lighter, more durable, and well-protected products score higher.

🔢 Score Normalization

All dimension scores are normalized within their product category using min-max scaling. This means scores reflect how a product compares to all others in the same category — not an absolute measure across all product types. A score of 8.5 means the product performs better than most others in its category.

Normalization is recalculated whenever new products are added to a category, so scores may shift slightly over time as the competitive landscape changes.

📋 Data Sources

We collect product specifications from multiple sources:

  • Official manufacturer specification pages
  • Verified retailer product listings
  • Independent benchmark databases
  • Published technical teardowns and lab tests

Data is reviewed for consistency before ingestion. When conflicting specifications exist between sources, we use the manufacturer's official data as the authoritative source.

🚫 What Does NOT Affect Scores

  • Paid placements or sponsored rankings — we do not accept payment to rank products higher
  • Affiliate revenue — affiliate links on this site are disclosed and do not influence scores
  • Brand partnerships — no manufacturer has any input on our scoring methodology
  • User votes — community voting is shown separately and does not alter expert scores
  • Advertising relationships — advertisers are clearly labeled and have no editorial influence

🔄 Update Policy

Product pages and scores are refreshed daily via our ISR (Incremental Static Regeneration) system. When a product is discontinued, its page remains accessible but is marked accordingly.

Comparisons are updated when either product in the comparison receives a score update. Best-of lists are recalculated whenever category rankings change significantly.

✉️ Corrections & Feedback

If you believe a specification is incorrect or a score seems wrong, please contact our team. We investigate all factual corrections within 5 business days and update the data if the reported error is confirmed.
