QLED (Quantum-dot LED) is an LCD technology using a quantum-dot color filter for wider color gamut and higher brightness than traditional LCD panels.
QLED is fundamentally an LCD with a quantum-dot enhancement layer. Quantum dots emit precise wavelengths of light when illuminated, producing more saturated and accurate colors than standard color filters.
Unlike OLED, QLED still requires a backlight, so it can't achieve true black. However, modern QLED TVs reach 1500β4000 nits peak brightness β well above OLED β making them excellent for bright rooms and HDR content.
Samsung popularized QLED branding; TCL and Hisense also produce QLED panels. Neo QLED combines QLED with mini-LED backlight.
